Chrome Removing Entrust Root Certificates

Actions to Take:

Bring this Support notice to the attention of your Information Technology department.

Issue:

Google will be removing multiple Entrust root certificates from the root certificate store in Chrome due to security issues at Entrust.   The certificates will be removed in version 127 and higher.

Impact:

Sites using Entrust or AffirmTrust certificates to secure HTTPS connections may no longer show up as secure in Chrome and users will receive a security warning when attempting to access the site.

Essent Service Impact:

Essent does not use Entrust certificates for any Essent service – including but not limited to Essent.com, EssentOne, or Essent SiteBuilder Pro Designer – so Essent services themselves are not impacted.

Subscribers with Entrust certificates in use for Compass and EssentOne Web Storefronts will be negatively impacted. These subscribers will need to update their certificate and communicate the new certificate details to Essent Support.

Corrective Action:

Affected certificates should be replaced before November 1, 2024.  Google recommends transitioning to a new certification authority to avoid future issues.
