Internet Explorer 9 and 10 Support Ends March 31, 2017

Attention Essent Web Product Customers – Mainstream support for IE9 and IE10 ends March 31, 2017

Microsoft has announced that only the most current version of the Internet Explorer (IE) web browser available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates. As of January 12, 2016, Microsoft has ended mainstream support for IE9 and IE10. As such, Essent support of IE9 and IE10 is scheduled to end on March 31, 2017.

What does this mean to you?

Internet Explorer 10 and below may experience breaking changes on ecommerce sites and should no longer be used. Users may be exposed to security vulnerabilities that are fixed or do not exist with supported browsers.

Microsoft will no longer hotfix bugs, even critical bugs that may cause the browser to incorrectly render your web pages that render correctly for other versions of Internet Explorer and other popular browsers. These errors may not be correctable by Essent, resulting in a poor browsing experience for your website visitors.

What you can do about it?

Install, and direct customers to install, a currently supported browser version.

Fortunately there are multiple popular alternatives. Microsoft has released IE11 and Microsoft Edge. The latest versions of Apple Safari, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox are all internationally popular alternatives that are widely used.
